Chapter 125 – Mictlantecuhtli killing in Lancashire?

2 07 2009

(Hercynian Report news blog)

The feared serial killer Mictlantecuhtli may still be active in Lancashire, Lancashire Constabulary warned this morning, following the discovery of the body of a Hyperborean doctor near Bay Horse.

The 25-year-old doctor was discovered by the roadside at 1:15 this morning. She had suffered blunt head trauma as well as multiple stab wounds to the torso and arms. Her forehead was marked with a capital ‘M’ in black ink.

Police describe the death as suspicious, but note that there is no conclusive evidence of any connection between this death and the suspected serial killer Mictlantecuhtli, who is believed to have been responsible for a series of deaths in Hercynia last year. However, they warn the public to remain alert, and one officer described the death as “strongly suggestive” of Mictlantecuhtli involvement.

“Mictlantecuhtli” is the name of the Aztec god of death. It first became linked to a series of six deaths last year when a letter was sent to the police describing the deceased as having been “claimed by the Lord Mictlantecuhtli”. All the claimed victims were found with the letter “m” drawn on their foreheads. It was initially supposed that this was the work of a cult, but in March this year, police announced that they believed the murders were all committed by an individual, dubbed Mictlantecuhtli by the media and general public.

Chapter 64 – On Being Caged

8 12 2008

(CloudsAreGatheringOverMe)

Right now I’m wondering if I’ll ever be allowed to leave the house ever again, except for school.

Everyone is in a panic about the “Mictlantecuhtli” killings, but my parents, as usual, are more worried than everyone else. They’ve declared that I’m not allowed to leave the house when it’s not light out – and this being the winter, it gets dark before tea time.

I get that they only want me to be safe. The thought of these Aztec cultists is absolutely terrifying. All the same though, it does kind of… well, suck.

You know, back in Hyperborea, I don’t think not being allowed out would really have bothered me. I mean, OK I was younger then, and they didn’t really like me going out in the evenings there anyway, but I never felt any desire to. Since I’ve got here, I’ve just felt so much more independent, and I’ve gone shopping with friends, and eaten at cafes, and watched movies at the cinema. It was fun while it lasted.

Here’s hoping they catch the noxious lunatics responsible for all these attacks soon!

Chapter 63 – Mictlantecuhtli double attack!

It was reported just this morning: Mictlantecuhtli has claimed two more victims. Two more dead bodies were found in Tree Top Town, of all places, both teenage girls, and both with letter “m”s on their foreheads.

The two girls, Olenka Li and Mariam Hanna, were both students of the nearby public school, Chester. They had apparently been out with friends that evening and were on their way home.

Naturally, everyone is in shock. This is the first attack of this kind where the bodies have been left in such a public place. I mean, you’d expect yourself to be fairly safe in Tree Top Town; it’s not a rough neighbourhood by any means.

I can’t stop worrying about this Mictlantecuhtli stuff. It terrifies me. I keep waking up in the night and imagining this figure standing over me with a knife. I know it would be best to try and think about something else, but it’s no good. Call it a morbid fascination if you like, but I don’t think I’m going to stop worrying about this until the killer is caught.

I’ve done a bit more reading up on the Aztecs and Mictlantecuhtli. Weird thing is, the more I’ve researched, the less sense this seems to make. I can’t find any reference to a form of Aztec sacrifice that remotely resembled the killings.

One thing we do now know about the killer or killers – they most likely have a death wish. The “Hercynia Report” says that Mariam Hanna was the daughter of Kayode and Firuza Hanna, a “wealthy couple” who run a business in the south docks. Now, I know you shouldn’t make assumptions, but that doesn’t sound like the sort of family it’s wise to antagonise. Unlike the police, the people in the south docks don’t mess around.

Chapter 60 – Mictlantecuhtli – my thoughts

So, I’m assuming everyone heard about the latest body that was found with an “m” on his head on Tuesday? That one wasn’t far from here at all.

In the letter that was in the news, it said that the victims had been claimed by Mictlantecuhtli, “the god of death”, which is why everyone thinks the murders were committed by some kind of cult.

I’ve done a bit of research into that name. Mictlantecuhtli, Lord of Mictlan. He was the Aztec god who ruled over the depths of the underworld, where the bones of the dead lay. He was a skeletal figure with huge, wide eyes, and was often depicted as bloodstained or wearing a necklace of eyeballs. Charming, no?

His wife was Mictecacihuatl, the skull-faced Lady of the Dead. He was associated with owls, spiders, bats and dogs (dogs accompanied souls to the underworld).

The letter in the papers claims that Mictlantecuhtli is a benevolent god, but the stories I’ve been reading make him sound vindictive and malicious. He was worshipped largely out of fear, and the Aztecs would offer human sacrifices to keep him happy. Granted, the Aztecs seem to have been fond of human sacrifices, but all the same, he doesn’t seem to have been a very nice guy.

Interesting though that was, it doesn’t tell us anything about who is committing the murders. Clearly not someone who is mentally stable. Nobody in their right mind believes that an actual god is claiming these people. Even if I was remotely religious, which I’m not, the murders showed obvious signs of being committed by a human. The culprit or culprits obviously made an effort to cover their tracks, but they can’t hide the fact that the victims died of strangulation and stabbing, for example. And I somehow doubt that a god would use a marker pen.

I guess the most likely explanation is that the murders are being committed by a cult, or maybe one fanatic. Perhaps the murders are actually sacrifices, and the “m” on their foreheads is a signal to Mictlantecuhtli? But that doesn’t explain the letter. If you’re going to engage in cult rituals, why risk blowing your cover by sending a letter to the press and telling the world what you’re up to? It seems more like an egotistical gesture than anything.

This whole thing really bothers me. I mean, is it safe to even leave the house? Who knows what kind of nutters are out there? As it is, I never really did much socially in the evenings, but now every time I even go outside I’m scared, like some psycho could be waiting around every corner with a knife and a marker pen.

Chapter 59 – Murder

26 11 2008

(bizzariarox)

i suppose you heard about mictlantecuhtli’s latest attack yesterday? i was the one who found the body.

it had been a good day up until that point. i’d stopped by at the odd jobs agency on my way back from a game of football i’d been playing with iaru and his mates, and i saw this request for a single delivery, that said it was urgent, to be made to a house in forest floor, under tree top town. that’s not far from where i live, so i thought, why the hell not? 20€ just for delivering a parcel!

so i took the bus home as usual, but instead of stopping there, i headed on to forest floor. i’d forgotten just how dark it gets there in the evenings. it took me a little while to find the house in the dark, but i found it, and delivered the parcel successfully. i turned to hurry back so as to catch the last bus to south dock, but i took a wrong turn down one of the streets and wound on the edge of the woods. i was going to just turn back, but then i spotted this figure slumped against a tree. i thought it might be someone hurt, so i just went to have a look. i saw it was a man, and that he wasn’t moving, so i called out, “are you ok?” he didn’t react at all, and then i got closer and realised the guy had a little black “m” on his forehead.

that was the most surreal moment ever. for a moment, i thought it couldn’t be real, you know? like i was imagining it or something. and then i panicked. i straightened up, looked around, and ran. i didn’t stop running until i was out from under tree top town and back in the open. then i called the police, and told them what i’d seen.

it was hard to get the words out. i think i was in shock. then of course they wanted a full explanation of everything, what was i doing there, did i see anything suspicious, etc. so it was a while before i could go home, and i was exhausted by that point. i had to hand my proof-of-delivery slip thingy in today, cause the agency was closed by the time i was done talking to the police.

why does everything crazy seem to happen around me? i mean, am i being punished for something? do i have bad karma?

everyone at school has wanted to discuss what happened. normally i’d be the first to tell everyone about such an exciting tale, but i’m so tired today, and i’m really not in the mood for people being morbid. as far as i can tell, i’m lucky to be alive myself. if the killer had still been around, they could have been really close by. the whole experience was scary as hell.

need sleepp now…. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Chapter 53 – Good news, bad news

12 11 2008

(johnny07)

A lot of remarkable things have been happening lately in this area. Some very good things, some very bad things. You might have heard about them on the news.

Good news first. It turns out miracles do happen. Bradley Turner, a girl from my school, was kidnapped over half term. She isn’t someone I know very well, but I was really glad that she was back in school yesterday, and completely unhurt. Everyone in the sixth form has been celebrating. It’s so rare that any of these news stories has a happy ending, so something like this is really uplifting.

In decidedly less good news, there have been a number of murders in this city in the past couple of weeks. There has been a bit of a panic about these recent killings because they appear to have all been committed by one person, or possibly some kind of gang or cult. Three bodies have been found in the past couple of weeks, two of them left in canals, all of them under the age of 25, and all with the letter “m” drawn on their foreheads in marker pen. Furthermore, there was that taunting letter in the papers, which is definitely something a serial killer would do – just look at the historical cases: the Zodiac Killer, Jack the Ripper, David Berkowitz… they all wrote letters and sent them to police or press, or left them for police to find.

The latest killing of this kind was only just reported: the body of a young man was found in an underpass in Bridgeside. That’s a notoriously violent area, but it isn’t all that far from where I live, and I find the whole business deeply disturbing.
