Chapter 104 – Too Dangerous

4 03 2009

Location: still can’t say
Mood: tense
Music: What Did U Say 2 Me? feat. Bass Warner ~ Alethia

I am not happy about this. Not happy at all.

Tom decided to meet with AJ Rich by himself. Reasoning being, he’s the only one of us who hasn’t been named as a wanted criminal, so he’s the least at risk

Of course, I wasn’t going to let that happen. I volunteered to go with him for backup. Problem being, Bradley then wanted to come with us, and then Johnny wanted us all to go, and Megan said that maybe none of us should go, but that if we were all going there was no way she was minding the clef by herself… *headache*

These people are dangerous. However we deal with them, we’ll be putting ourselves at risk. If it’s a trap, and me, Bradley, Megan or Johnny goes, then we could end up being arrested. If it’s a trap and Tom goes, he could end up being taken as a hostage. If it’s a trap and all of us go, then they’ve got us, and Research team 7 will get the clef & we’ll all go to prison. And if none of us goes, then we’re back where we started, and none the wiser about anything.

I think we’ve worked out the best course of action. Just hope it works, because if it doesn’t, who knows what could happen?

Chapter 101 – Apologize

23 02 2009

research team 7. the bad guys. why am i not surprised?

you say that you’re sorry for the “incident” in america. you claim that it was a mistake, that it was poorly executed, that the individuals responsible were out of order, and that their actions do not represent your organisation as a whole.

well, i’ve got my own message for you, research team 7. not. good. enough.

you kidnapped me. me and sakura and her family. you transported us all the way across america in the darkness. you kept us locked up. if you think a few meaningless words on the side of a plastic box constitutes an apology, after everything you did, you are very sadly mistaken.

we haven’t made up our minds with regards to your offer. we don’t trust you. i hope you can understand that. but i want you to know that i despise you.

if you come after us again, i’m not running. if you even think about double crossing us, i will hurt you. and if you hurt any of my friends, you will find yourselves in more pain than you could possibly imagine.

Chapter 53 – Good news, bad news

12 11 2008

A lot of remarkable things have been happening lately in this area. Some very good things, some very bad things. You might have heard about them on the news.

Good news first. It turns out miracles do happen. Bradley Turner, a girl from my school, was kidnapped over half term. She isn’t someone I know very well, but I was really glad that she was back in school yesterday, and completely unhurt. Everyone in the sixth form has been celebrating. It’s so rare that any of these news stories has a happy ending, so something like this is really uplifting.

In decidedly less good news, there have been a number of murders in this city in the past couple of weeks. There has been a bit of a panic about these recent killings because they appear to have all been committed by one person, or possibly some kind of gang or cult. Three bodies have been found in the past couple of weeks, two of them left in canals, all of them under the age of 25, and all with the letter “m” drawn on their foreheads in marker pen. Furthermore, there was that taunting letter in the papers, which is definitely something a serial killer would do – just look at the historical cases: the Zodiac Killer, Jack the Ripper, David Berkowitz… they all wrote letters and sent them to police or press, or left them for police to find.

The latest killing of this kind was only just reported: the body of a young man was found in an underpass in Bridgeside. That’s a notoriously violent area, but it isn’t all that far from where I live, and I find the whole business deeply disturbing.

Chapter 52 – Happy Ending!

11 11 2008

Great news! My friend who was kidnapped got back here OK! She was at school today and everything! I don’t know that I’ve ever been so relieved before!

Everyone had been so worried. There was a notice about it in assembly and everything. A group of us are going out for a meal later to celebrate.

Unfortunately I can’t stay out too late nowadays, because my parents are concerned about the crime in this area lately. Did you hear? There was another body found in a canal the other day. It’s horrible. But I managed to persuade my parents that we’ll be OK as a group, and that we’ll be fine if we don’t stay out too late. The restaurants aren’t open that late into the evening anyway, and it is school tomorrow.

Why am I talking about such depressing things, anyway? Today is a day for celebration!

One of my friends just texted me. I’m going now. Bye!

Chapter 48 – I Heard From My Friend Again

5 11 2008

Talk to me
I am lost and so are you
We only cling together
’Cause there’s nothing else that we can do

And I wish this never happened
Because it’s something I can’t bear
I feel like a spectator
Of a suffering that’s so unfair

Who are we
We are crying ’cause we’re scared
We search so hard for answers
Even though we know there’s nothing there

Sorry about the above. It’s just a coping mechanism; pay it no notice.

I heard from my friend the other day. And now I just don’t know what to think. She says she’s OK, and that although she’s still not being allowed home, they aren’t hurting her or her friends, and it’s all cool.

Obviously, it’s not cool. Not at all. She obviously doesn’t want us worrying, but pretending everything is fine when it so clearly isn’t is going to fool no-one.

We’ve been back at school for a couple of days now, but nobody can concentrate. I certainly can’t.

Chapter 45 – The Unthinkable Happened!

30 10 2008

What do you do when your whole world gets turned on it’s head?

Today I got a mail from one of my closest friends. She’s on holiday in America. And she’s currently locked in the back of a strange vehicle in the dark, along with her American friend.

My friends all got this news at round about the same time. I first found out when a friend called me. I knew something was wrong the moment I saw him. He was all pale, and he spoke in this weird voice, like he couldn’t articulate proper speech. He said that she’d been kidnapped, and to check my mail. I couldn’t believe it.

I don’t know what to do. There’s nothing I can do. None of us can do anything. She’s on the other side of the Atlantic! And they could be anywhere in America by now.

We told the police, but I don’t think they can do anything about it.

The worst part is, you hear about bad things happening to people on the news all the time. Like that kid in Cymru who hasn’t been seen for 6 weeks, or that woman who was found dead in a canal the other day, or that guy who landed himself in hospital last week when he got shot by a bank robber in Bristol. But it never happens to you, or to anyone you know.

And then it does.
